I’m running Advanced SwiftUI workshops on May 4th and May 8th, both with an important purpose: 100% of ticket revenue goes to help two Afghan girls get access to a safe and secure education here in the UK.

We’ll be covering a wide range of topics such as preference keys, Combine integration, performance, the environment, and much more, and of course I’ll be tackling ad hoc questions throughout both days.

Introducing Simple SwiftUI

As much as I love advanced SwiftUI, I also just launched a new GitHub repository called Simple SwiftUI. The goal here is to produce small, fully-formed SwiftUI projects that give learners some great sample project code to read through and try out – no tutorial they need to follow, no “clever” code that gets in the way of the end result, and no unhelpful licenses that stop you from using the code yourself.

Right now there are just two projects in the repository, both of which were created during yesterday’s Hacking with Swift+ livestream, but I’ll be adding more soon. In the meantime there are lots of opportunities for folks to contribute tests, bug fixes, documentation, and more.

One more thing…

Last month was a difficult one for my family, but we made it through and I hope things will start to get better. In fact, just yesterday I heard the news that we have finally been approved to host a Ukrainian refugee family in our house, and I’m looking forward to doing everything I can to help them settle in to life here in the UK.

You might wonder what all this has to do with Swift, and the answer is nothing at all – I just want to use this opportunity to remind you to help as many people as you can, as much as you can, for as long as you can. Yes, I enjoy building apps and helping others do that too, but I never want to forget how privileged I am to be doing such fun and creative work.

With WWDC only about a month away, this is a great time to find someone more junior to you in our community and helping them on their journey – maybe answering some of their questions, or even just sending them some encouraging words to help lift them, and it only takes a few minutes.
